REVIEWS

Book Island’s edition of Mr Miniscule and the Whale is so perfectly attuned to the current desire for wittily written, intelligently designed and aesthetically enriching literature it is destined to become treasured the world over. {Look / Book}

Poetry has to be the hardest type of literary text to translate. Yet, the translated text here retains an effective structure and natural-sounding rhyming pattern. The text is lively and witty, and will be a treat for wannabe explorers. With an aura of old-fashioned adventures, this really is a charming picture book. {Library Mice}

Mr. Miniscule and the Whale

Book Island's "Mr. Miniscule and the Whale" is a beautifully produced rhyming picture book that will appeal to children across a wide age range.
Mr. Miniscule builds himself a boat, stocks it with all manner of useful items and sets off to fulfil his long held ambition to see a whale...
Younger children will enjoy listening to the story being read to them, while following the plot by examining the detailed, somewhat nostalgic illustrations by Bohdan Butenko.
Older children will be able to read the amusing text independently.
Originally written by Julian Tuwim, the verse has been translated in a non-cumbersome way by Antonia Lloyd-Jones.
Many children at our school will appreciate this book, but our Polish families in particular will love reading the traditional story.
It would be a wonderful gift for grandparents to buy and share with their grandchildren.
