Big news!

Here at Book Island we’re so excited to have received the news from CILIP that one of our magnificent picture books, Little Wise Wolf, illustrated by Hanneke Siemensma and written by Gijs van der Hammen, has been longlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal 2020!

Little Wise Wolf is an outstanding story translated by Laura Watkinson about a little wolf, who reads by day and star gazes by night. All of his animal friends come to him to get answers to their difficult questions, like 'what do butterflies eat?' and 'how many stars are in the sky?'. However, Little Wise Wolf has no time for that. When the king falls ill, he sends for Little Wise Wolf to help make him better. Yet, on his journey to the palace, Little Wise Wolf realises he may not be as wise as he thinks he is. The world is much bigger that that contained within his books.

The Kate Greenaway Medal is an esteemed British literary award that recognises spectacular illustration in children’s literature. Past winners include Jackie Morris with her beautiful The Lost Words and Jon Klassen with This is Not My Hat.

Hanneke Siemensma is the illustrator behind the incredible illustrations you see in Little Wise Wolf. Click the link to take a look at more of her work: https://hannekesiemensma.nl/.
