Saturday, 18 February, 2017 - 10:00

Event

Get initiated into the strange world of roll and press illustrations. Using recycled materials such as old wallpaper, and bizarre textures, ink rolls and ancient printing techniques, the children bring new shapes and creatures to life by experimentread less

Flemish illustrator Kaatje Vermeire's unusual method of creating illustrations involves carefully selecting materials and combining drawing and graphic techniques – such as etchings – to provide an extra layer to the story.

In Kaatje’s picture book, The Big Question, Elephant asks herself: ‘How do you know you love somebody?’ As the answer is already in the illustrations in the book, Elephant asks participants in this workshop a new question: ‘What will the world look like in the year 2543?’

The children look for answers though the art and print process.

Just roll and (im)press and a new story emerges.
